Astalavista: Bleu sombre

American Journal of Epidemiology: request to the editor

Dear Editor,

I am searching for studies pertaining to close proximity airborne disease in urban settings: about influenza for instance, and its horizontal spread through close person-to-person contact, in relation with urban population density.

Are there any theoretical models which can predict the rate of spread of an airborne disease in urban areas?

My goal is to compare findings about word-of-mouth marketing strategies and studies in the epidemiology domain.

Kind regards.

Dear Explainer,

In an urban setting, how many people does one encounter at close range (within let’s say 20 meters) on a typical working day, commuting to work (using BMW : Bus, Metro, Walking) and within the office itself?  Are there any demographics studies that relate population density of a city and this particular statistic?  Must be proportionally related to the said density, and usage of public transportation, I suppose.

Thank you!
